Petra and Wadi Rum are a day trip from Eilat.
Jordan is the one place Israel tours leave the country for. Day runs cross at Wadi Araba above Eilat and are back the same night; the two-day versions sleep in Wadi Rum and take the Siq slowly. Carry the passport you flew in on.

Nazareth
The biggest town in the Galilee hills and the busiest pilgrimage stop in the north. The Basilica of the Annunciation is built over the old grotto, the market lanes below it are a working souk, and the White Mosque stands a few streets away. Coaches arrive mid-morning and leave before the hill traffic sets in.

Carmel and Mahane Yehuda are lunch, not shopping.
Tel Aviv’s Carmel Market runs on hummus, borekas and cheap arak, and the Yemenite lanes behind it are where the tastings actually stop. Jerusalem’s Mahane Yehuda fills with bars once the stalls shut. Both run late morning, and both include enough food to write off dinner.
In Israel the weekend lands on Friday.
Buses and trains stop on Friday afternoon and start again after dark on Saturday. Museums and most shops keep the same hours, and Sunday is an ordinary working day. Tours still run through it — cars and vans rather than public transport, and the price reflects that. Haifa is the exception: its buses keep going.
